Showcasing Knowsley’s Business Success

Over 600 guests from Knowsley and beyond were gathered to celebrate business success at the spectacular Knowsley Business and Regeneration Awards.

Now in their 12th year, the awards recognise the creativity, enterprise and hard work of the individuals and organisations that are contributing to Knowsley’s economic prosperity.

The ceremony showcased achievements from the past 12 months, from smaller businesses and entrepreneurs to the global successes of some of Knowsley’s bigger businesses. From regeneration initiatives, to housing developments and customer experience – the awards recognise organisations of all sizes and in all sectors.  Judges Choice Award winners

This year, more than £350 million has been invested into Knowsley by the private sector, creating 1200 new jobs and safeguarding 300 more. For 2015, there are more planned investments which will create more than 1300 additional new jobs.

Edward Perry, Chair of the Knowsley Place Board and Director of Operations for Knowsley Hall and Safari Park who helped to present the awards said: “I am delighted to have been involved in this great celebration of business success. It is fantastic to see so many people who are all committed to putting Knowsley on the map as a great place to live, visit, invest and do business.

“Business is booming in Knowsley and that is due to the hard work and dedication of many individuals and organisations. The awards provide a great opportunity for Knowsley’s business community to come together to recognise and celebrate this.”

Cllr Dave Lonergan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration Economy and Skills said: “It is great to see the work of the Knowsley Place Board developing and how the private sector and public sector are joining together to get more people talking about Knowsley and to showcase all of the great things that are happening here in Knowsley.”

Winners on the night included Leather Satchel Co. who received the Judges Choice Award in recognition their outstanding contribution to the borough. The company crafts bespoke leather satchels from its Knowsley factory and sells to over 60 countries.

Keith Hanshaw from Leather Satchel Co. commented: “I am absolutely delighted that we have won this award. Earlier this year we established the ‘Leather Satchel Co’ name at the International Festival for Business and we aim to raise the profile of Knowsley as a place where manufacturing and great customer service thrives. It’s an absolute pleasure to get this award and such fantastic recognition for our team that have, and continue, to work so hard.”

Regeneration Partnership of the Year was presented to Maro Developments for their part in bringing the new Matalan HQ and 2,000 jobs to Knowsley.

Plus Dane Group received Affordable Housing Scheme of the Year for its Quarry Bank development in Kirkby and Knowsley Apprentice Joe Kenny, from St Laurence’s Catholic Primary School, was named Employee of the Year.

The event is supported through sponsorship and donations to the prize draw on the evening, which raised over £7,000 for the Mayor of Knowsley’s chosen charities.
