Children and young people in Knowsley are invited to a special event next week showcasing the range of extracurricular activities on offer across the borough from September.

“Getting to Know Us” is an 11 hour extravaganza on Thursday 28 August providing young people with the chance to try out everything from table tennis, circuit training and swimming sessions to street dance, martial arts classes, skate park sessions and lots, lots more all for free.

The event which will be held at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park (KLCP) campus from 10am to 9pm aims to give children, young people and their families a taste of the wealth of activities on offer outside school time.

Activities will kick off at KLCP at 10am, moving to Knowsley Youth Mutual’s Our Place youth facility at 1.30pm and rounding off the day from 5pm to 9pm at the Lord Derby Academy.  Girls playing table tennis

Cllr Eddie Connor, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Community and Culture, said:

“There’s such a lot on offer in Knowsley and we hope the eleven hour event will provide our children and young people with the opportunity to to try out as many new and interesting out of school activities as possible.

“Staff will be on hand in the three centres to give advice and answer any questions children and their families may have. They will also be able to help sign up children and young people for any sessions they have tried out and enjoyed.”

“Getting to Know Us” is for children and young people from across the borough. Transport to the event can be arranged through Knowsley Youth Mutual by calling OurPlace in advance of the day on 443 5323.

Similar ‘taster’ events are being planned in other areas of the borough and full details will be publicised on the council’s website.
