Recycling message hits the streets during Recycle Week 2014

A campaign reminding Knowsley residents of the importance of recycling will be appearing across the borough from this week.

‘We all need to recycle’ is the message at the forefront of a new borough-wide campaign appearing on taxis, phone boxes, town centre adverts and the sides of refuse collection vehicles in the coming months.

Launched during Recycle Week – 16 to 23 June – the Knowsley campaign highlights the fact that residents need to recycle more plastic bottles, paper, cardboard, glass bottles, jars and cans in their grey recycling bins*.

Council environment officers will be promoting those messages to shoppers during town centre road shows in Huyton, Kirkby and Prescot, and recycling hints and tips will be issued via social media during the week.

Knowsley residents recycled 33% of their waste during 2013/14 – with the borough aiming to increase this to 50% by 2020.

Cllr Graham Morgan, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Delivery said: “We have launched the campaign to highlight the importance of recycling and encourage our residents to keep using their grey and blue bins. It’s about the simple actions everyone can take to help reduce the amount we send to landfill and reduce the burden of landfill tax.

“We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone for their recycling efforts so far and hope they keep up the good work to help us reach our target to recycle 50% of our waste by 2020.”
