Panel members for independent education appeals

We are inviting applications for people to serve on panels which will consider appeals by parents in respect of pupils’ admission to or exclusion from schools.

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds. Previous experience in these matters is not required.

However, certain eligibility criteria must be satisfied to ensure that the panels are independent and unbiased.  For example, a person may not serve as a member of an appeal panel if they are a member of the local authority which is the admission authority or if they are employed by the local authority other than as a teacher or teaching assistant.

We are seeking individuals who can be objective, can deal with fairly complex documentation, have good interpersonal skills and understand the need for confidentiality.  Members will be expected to attend some initial training and subsequent update sessions. 

The work is voluntary but travel expenses will be reimbursed and refreshments will be provided.

Initial training sessions are scheduled for February, so please contact us by the end of January 2014.
