Opening of new Greystone Footbridge

Published on: Tuesday, 10-November-2015

The installation of the new Greystone footbridge was successfully managed over a weekend in October.

We are working with the contractor to complete the remaining works as soon as possible so that the bridge can be opened for the local community to use.

Following the installation of the new bridge, we have built new brick walls to prevent to prevent unauthorised access to the steep embankments. There have also been delays in Scottish Power reconnecting the mains power cable, which has prevented the construction of improved pedestrian paths on approaches to the bridge on both sides of the motorway.

This work has been necessary to ensure that the new bridge can be used safely and to make improvements to the local area, including the footpath under the rail arch, and will prevent the need to revisit the area in the near future.

We are now expecting the new Greystone footbridge to be open to pedestrians during the week commencing 16 November. The free shuttle bus service will remain in place until the new bridge opens.
