New shuttle bus service launch

Published on: Thursday, 23-July-2015

A new shuttle bus service will run during work to replace the Greystone footbridge across the M62 at Huyton.

To avoid disruption to pedestrians, the service will run from 27 July, when access to the footbridge – known locally as the ‘sausage bridge’ will be closed. It is expected the service will run until the completion of works on 19 October.

The K1 Merseytravel shuttle bus will operate seven days a week on a circular route from Roby Road turning circle, Milton Avenue, via Bowring Park Road, back to Roby Road. The free service will stop at all recognised bus stops on demand, and operate on a ‘hail and ride’ basis along Thingwall Lane and Milton Avenue. See map

Unfortunately, due to the narrow width of Greystone Road and nearby streets, it is not possible for the bus to stop any closer to the footbridge. Here is the bus timetable:

There are also weekend closures of the M62 for demolition and construction and separate lane closures to allow the contractors to dig 18 metre foundations in the central reservation – disruption will be kept to a minimum for local residents and motorway drivers.

The Greystone footbridge has now reached the end of it serviceable life and Knowsley Council is investing in a new modern replacement bridge that will cater for both cyclists and pedestrians.

Details of the shuttle bus service, M62 closures, lane closures and diversions are available on the council’s website www.knowsley.gov.uk and on Twitter @Knowsley_roads
