More choice over takeaway foods

Takeaway owners across Knowsley are giving you more choice about the food you buy, through a brand new initiative.

The ‘Ask us’ campaign encourages customers to ask for your favourite takeaway dishes to be made with less fat, salt and sugar.

Even if those options are not advertised on the menu, businesses signed up to the campaign will be happy to make the dish the way you choose.less fat, salt and sugar - ask us - our menu, your way

That means you are cutting down on the fat, salt and sugar which can lead to health problems including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

It comes after research showed that many residents wanted to see alternative takeaway options.

Knowsley’s Director of Public Health, Matt Ashton, said: “This new campaign is a great way for customers to take more control of the food they eat from takeaways in the borough.

“The businesses taking part have received healthy eating training and will be delighted to adjust their menu items to suit your dietary and nutritional requirements. This is a really simple way of cutting down on the ingredients that are bad for you and helping you to maintain a healthier diet and lifestyle.”
Nicholas Spyrou, from the Gold Star in Huyton said: “I am delighted to be involved in the initiative for healthy eating.

“I've tweaked the already-popular menu to incorporate healthier recipes across the board. All our dishes are more nutritional and contain less saturated fat. To further boost our health credentials we are using more fruit and vegetables in recipes, reducing sugar and salt content by up to 50%.”
