Men in Knowsley urged to focus on their health

Published on: Monday, 15-June-2015

Men’s Health Week in Knowsley, from 15 to 21 June, aims to encourage men in the borough to think more consciously about their own health and lifestyle.

Knowsley Council’s Community Health Development team will visit venues across the borough with interactive materials like the fat demonstrator – which shows the shockingly high fat content of some foods – and models of clogged arteries, in a bid to drive home the message that making a few simple lifestyle changes, like healthy eating and being more physically active, can lead to a healthier, longer life.

To help motivate men to kick-start their lifestyle changes the team will also be distributing goal setting cards.

The Community Health Development Team will visit:

  • Kirkby Leisure Centre on Monday, 9.30am to 12pm
  • Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park, Huyton on Tuesday, 9.30am to 12pm
  • Stockbridge Village Leisure Centre on Wednesday, 6pm to 8pm
  • Tesco, Prescot on Friday, 12.30pm to 3.30pm

The team will also attend:

  • Knowsley Village Health Walk  on Wednesday, 10.00 am departing from Millennium Green – for more info contact team 0800 0731202
  • Kirkby Health Walk on Thursday, 10.00 am departing from outside Derby Arms pub - for more info contact team 0800 0731202

Cllr Eddie Connor, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said:

“I’d urge every man in Knowsley to take some time during Men’s Health Week to focus on their health and make a conscious decision to lead a better lifestyle.

“We know making a few simple changes in our behavior and lifestyle can have a major positive impact on our health and wellbeing.

“Hopefully this week will help more men begin to realise the importance of their own health and wellbeing.”
