Look out for your letter!

Published on: Monday, 04-August-2014

The way you register to vote has changed. The new system is called Individual Electoral Registration (IER).

In the past, one person was responsible for registering everyone who lived in a household. Now, if you are registering for the first time or re-registering, you need to do it yourself. The new system also means that people are able to register online for the first time.

Knowsley residents will receive a letter about IER between 6 and 12 August.  Please look out for this letter as it will tell you whether or not you need to take action to join the new register.  If you do not receive a letter, please let us know (see Knowsley contact details below).

Following checks made against Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) records, most people who are currently registered will be added to the new register automatically. However, some residents will need to register either online or complete and return a form.

It is free, quick and easy to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

You will need to provide:

  • Your name, address and nationality
  • Your National Insurance number
  • Your date of birth
