Knowsley Children Looked After and Care Leaver’s Pledge

Published on: Friday, 11-September-2015

Knowsley Council takes its role as Corporate Parent extremely seriously.  The council is a Corporate Parent when a child lives away from their family, including if they are in foster care and residential care.  It works with children and young people to ensure they are actively involved in the care they receive and respond to feedback from them.

As part of this responsibility, the council has been working with children and young people to identify what support children and young people in care and leaving care can expect from Corporate Parents.  The Knowsley Children Looked After and Care Leaver’s Pledge has been developed which clearly sets out these expectations.  The six groups of pledges are based on the experiences of children and young people who are looked after, as well as recognizing the additional needs of care leavers.  They are:

  • Where you live
  • Corporate parents
  • Advice and support
  • Health and happiness
  • Education and training
  • Growing up and moving on

For further information on what young people said and the Corporate Parent’s pledge can be found in the Knowsley Children Looked After and Care Leaver’s Pledge.
