Freshers encouraged to get MenC vaccine

Published on: Monday, 15-December-2014

First year university students (Freshers) are urged to protect themselves against meningococcal C infection with a vaccination before returning to university.

The call follows recent reports of cases of meningococcal disease among the student population.

Meningococcal C disease is a rare but life-threatening infection and students mixing with lots of new people are at risk of infection.

Any Fresher who has not had the vaccine should make an appointment with their GP or student health services before they return to university for the new term.

Further information can be found in the NHS leaflet – Protect yourself against meningitis and septicaemia.
