Cycle in Knowsley on Tour of Britain day!

Published on: Friday, 22-August-2014

As the excitement mounts for the start of the Tour of Britain in a fortnight, plans have been revealed for a Sky Ride through Knowsley to coincide with the Stage Two start of the event which sets off from the borough on Monday 8 September.

Over one hundred of the world’s top cyclists will depart from Knowsley Safari at 10.15am and race through parts of the borough before continuing to Llandudno.

The Knowsley Sky Ride will start as the pros cycle out of the borough, departing from the National Wildflower Centre at 11.30am. Registering for the free, guided ride is very simple via the Sky Ride website, although places are limited so don’t delay!

Organised by British Cycling and Sky, in partnership with Knowsley Council, the Sky Ride Local programme is a series of free, fun, guided bike rides around the borough.

The Sky Ride announcement comes on top of the many activities already arranged in celebration of the tour, including a cycling village, various shows, plus the safari drive itself at Knowsley Safari.

Any local residents, schools, businesses and community groups not visiting the Safari for the start of stage two can get involved and experience the amazing atmosphere by lining the route and cheering on the competitors as they race through parts of the borough including Prescot and Huyton town centres.
