Council Tax bills

Residents will shortly be receiving their 2016/17 Council Tax Bills. Full details of how your bill is derived, and how you can pay your Council Tax can be found here.

The Government has encouraged councils with responsibility for adult social care to increase Council Tax by an additional 2% in order to assist in meeting expenditure on adult social care functions. This has been shown as a separate item on your Council tax bill.

Given the scale of Government’s funding cuts and the increasing costs for providing social care, the council had no alternative but to implement the proposed increase. While this will raise important extra resources, there will still be a significant budget shortfall in Social Care over the coming years that the Government expects councils to manage and work is ongoing to manage this situation.

The overall Council Tax increase (including the new Adult Social Care precept) for 2016/17 is 3.99%. This equates to an additional 64p per week for the majority of Knowsley Tax Payers. The council will continue to provide locally funded support for those residents who can’t afford to pay.
