Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority are consulting over proposed changes to fire and rescue cover in Knowsley.

The Fire and Rescue Authority is proposing to close Huyton Fire Station and Whiston Fire Station and build a new community fire station on Manchester Road, Prescot.

You can find out more and have your say at a number of public meetings:-

10 June at 7:30pm - Rainhill High School, Prescot
12 June at 6pm - The Lord Derby Academy, Huyton
17 June at 6pm - St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Centre for Learning, Whiston

Dan Stephens, Chief Fire Officer, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, said “Over the last four years the service has had to make savings of £20 million as a result of cuts to our Government grant. We must now make further savings of £6.3 million in 2015/16 and our expectation is that there will be more grant reductions in the following years.

“We are continuing to make significant savings in support service costs. We have already reduced the number of firefighters by almost half over the last decade and the number of fire appliances has reduced from 42 to 28. We will still have the same number of stations, however, and with an inevitable further loss of appliances that position is no longer sustainable”.
