Published on: Tuesday, 20-January-2015

The next meeting of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority will take place at 11am on Friday, 23 January 2015 at Mann Island, Liverpool and will consider the implementation of a number of key transport projects.

These are projected to support the creation of 1,329 jobs and increase economic output by £79 million per year.  Updates will also be presented on the further transport schemes that are planned in 2016/17.

In addition, information on other transport schemes announced by Government in December 2014 will be provided.  This includes work on the M62 and the M53.  These were priority schemes set out in the City Region’s Growth Deal in 2014 and will be delivered by the Highways Agency.  This will bring the total amount of investment secured by the City Region Growth Deal since April 2014 to nearly £1 billion.

The Growth Deal also secured over £40 million of skills capital funding for the City Region and a report will outline the process by which applications from Further Education Colleges and Training Providers with be sought and prioritised.

Also scheduled for discussion is the development of a Freight Strategy, which represents a significant opportunity for the City Region to put itself in the best place to make the most of the growth potential within the freight and logistics sector in general, and the committed investment in the SuperPort concept and Liverpool 2 in particular.

A proposal outlining the City Region’s collaborative approach to inward investment will be presented.  Having a shared approach to inward investment has been a priority identified by the private sector led LEP and the Combined Authority will consider the first stage of a common approach with the aim of increasing the investment that can be attracted to the City Region.
