Cancer iVAN in Knowsley

Published on: Wednesday, 08-January-2014

Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Network’s iVAN is hitting the streets in Knowsley, helping to raise awareness and early detection of cancer.

Cancer specialists will be on-hand to identify symptoms, refer residents to their GP as well as raising awareness of the issue.

The van will be in Huyton town centre between 10am and 5pm on Thursday, 9 January and Kirkby Town Centre between 10am and 2.00pm on Monday, 13 January.

No appointment is necessary and people can talk to one of the Cancer Information Specialists or a Cancer Specialist Nurse face-to-face. It’s free and completely confidential.

Matthew Ashton, Director of Public Health in Knowsley said “We all lead busy lives and sometimes don’t get around to making an appointment with our GP, but our iVAN comes out into the community and I would encourage as many people as possible to call in.  You can speak to our specialist nurses about any symptoms you have, or familiarise yourself with the symptoms you should be looking out for. A visit to the iVAN really does save lives.”

The iVAN will be travelling around the borough over the coming weeks and further dates and venues will be promoted on the council’s website – /
