Breastmilk - it's amazing

Published on: Tuesday, 20-January-2015

Today sees the launch of ‘Breast milk - It’s amazing’ events which are taking place across the borough this week.

Today’s event takes place at Tesco Extra, Prescot between 10am and 2pm, followed by Kirkby Market on Wednesday, 21 January between 10am and 2pm. The team will be at the Halewood Centre on Thursday, 22 January between 12pm and 4pm.

At each of the events participants from local breastfeeding teams and peer support groups will attend allowing women to discuss the issues they are having and receive sign posting to local support.

Breastfeeding has numerous benefits for both the baby and the family - it boosts a baby’s immune system, protecting them from illnesses and disease thus reducing the chance of being admitted to A&E and other emergency healthcare settings. In addition, it’s free!

Matthew Ashton, Director of Public Health in Knowsley, said “We know about the health benefits of breastfeeding, but these events provide support to our residents so that they can make an informed choice to breastfeed. By attending these events, residents can receive the right information and access the support that is available. I would encourage residents to come along and find out more.”
