Bogus caller warning

Published on: Monday, 06-October-2014

Knowsley Council Trading Standards is warning residents across the borough to be on their guard after reports of bogus workmen posing as gardeners and  operating in the Huyton area.

Early reports indicate that older residents have been approached for work including jet washing, general garden maintenance and offers to check water pipes.

Please keep a look out for any person(s) who may be targeting elderly or vulnerable residents in your neighbourhood.  Signs to watch for: traders cold calling, builders maintenance vans, pickups parked nearby which only display mobile or free phone numbers, building, maintenance or gardening work starting on a neighbour’s house unexpectedly, poor quality work on the roof, driveway or property, your neighbour appears anxious or distressed, your neighbour visits the bank or post office more frequently particularly if they are accompanied by a trader notify trading standards and/or the police immediately.

Please be aware that United Utilities do not cold call residents and enter your home to check your water pipes or water supply. Notify the police as a matter of urgency should you be aware of this happening in your neighbourhood.
