Youth advice and information
Drug and alcohol work with young people
This is a
partnership approach to developing and delivering quality drug and
alcohol awareness and preventative work with the young people of
Knowsley as part of the youth work curriculum and to support
children and young people at risk of substance related harm. The
project is managed by the Youth and Play Service and funded by the
Knowsley Drug and Alcohol Action Team and Knowsley
Connexions.
Key aims of this work include:
- Delivering substance misuse education through youth work to the young people of Knowsley.
- Providing accurate information and responding to the needs of young people for advice concerning substance misuse.
- Supporting vulnerable young people within the community to live healthy lives and reach their potential.
- Providing quality training and professional development for youth and play service staff.
- Working in partnership with other agencies and to address substance misuse issues as part of Knowsley Council’s Substance Misuse Plan.

Sexual Health and Relationship Team
Knowsley Sexual
Health Team is made up of four youth workers each with their own
specialist areas relating to sexual health and a particular area of
knowsley to cover. This team is funded in partnership with Knowsley
Primary Care Trust.
The team promotes sexual health as being an important part of
physical and mental health. With the aim of ensuring that there is
access to correct and up to date information and services to avoid
the risk of unintended pregnancy, illness or infections and to
promote good sexual health and positive relationships.
The team can offer one to one support to young people in any youth
setting and can provide training and courses for young people and
youth workers alike in most areas of relationships and sexual
health. Below are some of the projects that the team are involved
in:
THINK (Teenage Health in Knowsley)
The
THINK Team consists of sexual health workers and substance and
alcohol misuse workers who work across the borough through centres,
detached projects, clinics and other youth provision.
Think in a box
This service provides a scaled down contraceptive service which
includes emergency contraception, condoms distribution and
Chlamydia screening. This is a confidential service and young
people are contacted with results via a text message to their
mobile phone or by other arrangement.

Gay Knowsley
Gay Knowsley weekly youth groups are open to all young people who
identify themselves as lesbian, gay or bisexual (or think they
might be) and are aged between 13 to 21.
This group provides peer support where young people can attend,
meet other young people and enjoy youth activities in a safe
environment. The group is confidential.

This is a quick reference guide for all
young people in Knowsley to help them gain access to current
information around a number of subjects including education, work
and training, money, benefits, housing, the law, relationships, sex
and sexuality, health, drugs, leisure, travel and transport, the
environment, politics, religion and equal opportunities.
The book is packed with pages of useful information for young
people at a time when they are making important decisions about
their future.
The booklet contains 144 pages of national information, as well as
24 pages specific to Knowsley, listing details of agencies working
with young people.
