The Junior Youth Inclusion programme
This is funded
by the Children's Fund and works with 50 young people in the Tower
Hill and Southdene areas of Kirkby who are regarded as being most
at risk by a range of organisations and agencies. The
programme has strong links to the Senior Youth Inclusion programme
in the North Huyton area and the Learning and Developing Skills
project based in Kirkby.
The Senior Youth Inclusion programme
This is funded
by the Youth Justice Board and works with 50 young people in the
North Huyton area who are regarded as being most at risk by a range
of organisations and agencies. There are 70 programmes nationally
and it is regarded as being one of the Youth Justice Board's main
youth crime prevention initiatives. It is aimed at young
people identified as at risk of offending but who have not yet
entered the youth justice system.
Learning and Development Skills (Lads) project
The
Lads project works with young men aged 13 to 19 who are not
participating in or benefiting from education, training or
employment.
The project employs youth work methods to engage the target group in a flexible personal development programme that develops their confidence, self esteem and motivation whilst equipping them with practical and employability skills. Barriers to learning and participation are identified through one to one mentoring and addressed through action planning and monthly support meetings. Issue based workshops raise the young people's awareness and knowledge and facilitate their engagement with services aimed at young people. Motivational and vocational activities enable participants to re-integrate with mainstream education, training and employent opportunities.

Halewood project
The Halewood project offers an
alternative curriculum through which individuals and groups can
develop their skills and motivation, identify issues that affect
their lives and work collectively to address these issues. It
is a process based on the development of an equal partnership
between all those involved to improve their quality of life.

Inclusion
The Youth and Play service have an Inclusion Officer whose role
involves working with children and young people to reduce barriers
they face when accessing the service. The officer will visit
the child or young person for an initial assessment of need and
will then support the child or young person in a youth or play
setting.
For further information contact the Inclusion Officer on 0151 443 5328.
Divert
The Divert Team in partnership with the police and Knowsley Housing
Trust respond to local resident issues involving young people and
anti-social behaviour.
The team engage with young people aged 10 to 18 who are most at risk of engaging in anti-social behaviour and signpost them into activities that meet their needs and steers them away from engaging in anti-social behaviour.
The team provide an early intervention to address this behaviour before it becomes serious enough to involve criminal charges or eviction as part of tenancy agreements. The aim is to support young people to make positive choices about their behaviour and future.
For further information contact the Divert Team on 0151 443 5329.
Band Developments
The aim of this project is to
support and encourage young people aged 12 and over who express an
interest in music and performing to undertake music tuition, form
bands and perform live on stage.
Part of band development is to provide young people with the opportunity to take part in all aspects of the music industry including sound engineering, setting up PA systems and amplifiers, and health and safety around the use of equipment.
