Youth and Play Service - about us
The aim of the Youth and Play Service is to help children and
young people learn about themselves, others and society through
informal educational activities which combine enjoyment, challenge
and learning.
The service is guided by the youth service curriculum document
developed in partnership with Greater Merseyside Youth Services.
The service is subject to internal inspection and Ofsted
inspections as part of the joint area review.
The Play Service operates open access play clubs, after school and
during school holidays. Each club is required to adhere to the
National standards day care and is inspected by Ofsted on a three
year cycle.
The service consists of management of three geographical areas:
- North - Kirkby
- Central - Huyton
- South - Prescot, Whiston, Cronton and Halewood
In addition to this, the following teams have a borough wide
remit:
- Central Support. This includes the Quality team which is involved with the management information systems and workforce and Service development. The Awards team, the Participation team and the Mobile Play facility.
- The Interventions Team. Provide a range of specialist interventions including sexual health, substance misuse and projects such as Youth inclusion and the Learning And Developing Skills (Lads) project. Find out more about the specialist projects.
The Youth and Play Service, in partnership with local people and
groups, voluntary organisations, other departments of the Council
and other agencies supports the delivery of an extensive portfolio
of services.
The service produces an annual business plan which prioritises the
work of the service and takes into account local consultation with
children and young people.
