Welcome to Leisure and Culture

Logotype for Leisure and Culture

Disability in sport

The Knowsley Disability Sports Development team are committed to raising the profile of disability sport across the borough and we work in conjunction with schools, day centres and sports clubs to promote sport and leisure opportunities both during curricular time and after school.

The work done with these groups is directly linked to the Merseyside Sport Championships, a range of sporting and leisure competitions for adults and young people.

Strategically the work in Knowsley is undertaken through a number of partner agency links. These partners are all working together to ensure inclusive leisure and sport opportunities are available for all.

Inclusive Fitness Initiative

The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) is a Sport England Lottery funded project that supports facilities to become inclusive, catering for the needs of disabled and non-disabled people alike.

Since the launch of the this initiative at Halewood Leisure Centre in May 2005, nearly 200 visits have been recorded by people coming to utilise the specially adapted gym equipment.
