New Opportunities Fund - Fairshare, Transforming Your Space

Knowsley MBC have recently been successful in securing funding from the New Opportunities Fund for Transforming Your Space. A borough wide consultation was carried out to ask people what their priorities for opens spaces were in the borough. Following on from this a wide range of projects are underway including tree planting along Tarbock Road and a wide range of park improvements.

RARC Community Garden 'New Deal for Communities (NDC)'

This scheme has taken an area of derelict land adjacent to the River Alt Resource Centre and created a much needed car park extension and a community garden. The garden has been designed and implemented by local residents. It includes raised beds, all ability access and its own unique seating.

Court Hey Park Improvements

As part of the improvement works started last year with the installation of a new play area and footpath at the rear of the park, more will follow in the next few months. This includes new fencing and access improvements around the Bowling Green and a new footpath to safely link Roby Road to the National Wildflower Centre and play area.

Frensham Way (Halewood)

There has been a re-development of the shopping complex at Frensham Way in Halewood and provision of a new Public Open Space, which includes a specially designed mosaic.

Stockbridge Playground

The scheme is now complete and the grand opening and installation of signs will be taking place soon.

Bowring Park

A stage one bid has been submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the historical Bowring Park.

ICEP woodland Management

Woodland management is currently being undertaken on 7 sites across the borough. The scheme will carry out much needed work on the sites ensuring the long-term health of the woodlands.

Wignall Park Play Area

A new play area funded by Sure Start and aimed at children under 5 is being installed in Wignall Park, Kirkby. This will provide a wider range of play facilities in the park.

KHT/KMBC Environmental Improvements

A rolling programme has been developed with Knowsley Housing Trust. This work helps to tackle problems such as fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour on derelict housing back land areas and disused garage sites by regenerating these areas into useful sites including parking areas and gardens. Consultation with the local community has helped generate a priority list of sites.
