Whitestone Millennium Green

In 1998, the Millennium Commission and the Countryside Agency agreed to create up to 250 Millennium Greens throughout the United Kingdom. Whitestone Millennium Green is one of four that have been created in Knowlsey. The Whitestone Millennium Green has been created on land leased by Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council to the Whitestone Millennium Green Trust.

Local school children investigated the history of this part of Whiston and incorporated their ideas into the design for the mosaic. Illustrating local history over the past one thousand years, the mosaic includes images of the countryside, farming, mining and celebrates the birth of the railways with the Rocket train.

The Whitestone Millennium Green Trust will hold this land in trust as a permanent green space, for the involvement and enjoyment of the whole of the local community for the next 999 years. Together with local people, the Trust will continue to develop the Millennium Green for future generations.
