Could you offer Work Experience?

Jobcentre Plus are looking for businesses who can provide work experience to help young people who are out of work and have little or no work experience. This Get Britain Working Measure is primarliy aimed at younger Jobseeker Allowance (JSA) customers, aged 18 to 24 from week 13 of their claim up to referral to the Work Programme. Here in Knowsley, there are 2,120 customers aged 18-24 claiming JSA (October 2011 Labour Market Stats). Therefore, Jobcentre Plus need your help to increase the number of placements available.

Work Experience placements can be flexible, lasting between 2 to 8 weeks and with attendance between 25 to 30 hours per week. There are no wage costs involved for the employer or other host organisation. The participant will continue to receive their benefit payments. Bureaucracy will be kept to a minimum. A short Service Level Agreement and a Health and Safety Questionnaire are all that is needed to be completed. You will also be asked for a short reference at the end of the placement.

There is no restriction on the size or type of employer or organisation offering placements but Jobcentre Plus will be looking for those placements to be hands-on and involve real work activities. Placements would be expected to be in addition to existing or planned vacanacies. Work Experience is not intended to be a recruitment tool. It is intended to help young people to become work-ready through providing a positive experience of work. However, if the young person you are helping shows potential you can offer them employment.
