Kirkby updates

November 2008

  • Kirkby Public Inquiry will begin 18 November 2008
  • Second pre inquiry meeting on 5 November 2008

September 2008

  • Pre Inquiry meeting held in Kirkby

August 2008

  • Kirkby transformation 'called in' for Public Inquiry.
  • Date set for Public Inquiry - 18 November 2008.

May 2008

  • A third statutory consultation is held after further amendments are made to the planning application.

April 2008

  • A second period of statutory consultation is held, after a series of amendments were made to the scheme.

February 2008

  • The consultation on the Tesco planning application closed. The council begins to look at all comments received and produce a report for consideration by the planning committee in spring.
  • The council receives revised plans from Development Securities. Further consultation is carried out and the the council considers all responses and produces a report for the planning committee to consider in the spring.

January 2008

  • Consultation on the Development Securities application closed.
  • The council receives a planning application for Kirkby from Tesco Stores Ltd.

December 2007

  • The council receives comments back from the interim policy statement
  • All comments are considered before deciding on next steps.
  • The council receives an application from the owners of part of the existing town centre, Development Securities.

November 2007

  • The council develops a draft Interim Policy Statement that sets out a vision for the town centre. This vision will act as guidelines for what the council would expect to see addressed in any potential planning application. The document is made available for consultation to make sure the public and in particular Kirkby residents have a further opportunity to have their say so that all views and opinions are taken into account.
  • Tesco conducts a pre-application consultation with the community

August 2007

  • Knowsley Council consultation findings published and sent to every household in Kirkby.
  • Everton announce their ballot results, 59 per cent in favour of move to Kirkby and 41 per cent against.

June and July 2007

  • An extensive consultation -Your Kirkby, Your Future, takes place to give everyone who lives and works in the area a chance to comment on ideas to regenerate the town centre. More than 2,300 people take part and 1,100 give feedback.

May 2007

  • The council received initial drawings of how the proposed development could look. Cabinet agreed plans to begin the formal consultation process in June.

February 2007

  • Kirkby town centre and land adjacent proposed by Tesco as the preferred location for a potential leisure and retail development submitted to Knowsley Council.

January 2007

  • More than 600 people that live and work in Kirkby turned out to have their say about the future of the town at the Kirkby is Changing drop-in event.

December 2006

  • Proposals outlining a development that could include a new stadium for Everton FC, a Tesco superstore and retail space for a range of high street shops were initially made to the council. All three commit to investigate a major regeneration initiative in Kirkby.
