Assessment

Psychometric testing within Knowsley is used for a variety of posts. If tests are being used, practice leaflets will be issued to candidates.

There are 3 main types of psychometric assessment currently used in the selection process:

Ability tests

These can be used to measure skills such as the ability to reason with numbers and verbal information, clerical skills, and skills appropriate to information technology posts. The range of ability tests available is appropriate for all levels of posts, from clerical to managerial.

They assist the shortlisting process providing valuable, objective information on candidates, identifying strengths and developmental points.

Occupational personality questionnaires

The Occupational Personality Questionnaire has been designed to assess the typical or preferred behaviour of an individual in a way that is relevant to the world of work. It is particularly used in the assessment of professional and managerial roles within the Authority.

Assessment centres

Assessment centres are designed and used for the majority of senior posts within Knowsley. These usually include the above together with group exercises and in tray briefings.
