Joining a housing association
If you would like to rent a property in Knowsley you can go through one of two routes.
1. Private Landlords
Private landlords usually advertise their available properties when they become available to move into. To can obtain advice and information as to the type of property that is available from local newspapers or estate / letting agents.
2. Housing Associations
Sometimes known as Registered Social Landlords (RSL’s).
To apply to a Housing Association you will need apply directly to the association and join their housing register or waiting list. Anyone over the age of 16 years may apply to join a housing register and it may not be necessary to live or work in the area. You may not normally be offered a property until you have reached the age of 18years.
Each Housing Association will have their own rules as to who can apply but in broad terms those who are unable to join the register are usually:

- Owner / occupiers who have sufficient resources to enable them to secure suitable alternative accommodation.
- Applicants with second homes.
- Applicants who are subject to immigration control, unless they are a group specified by the Secretary of State as eligible for housing assistance.
