Homelessness

In 2002 the Council transferred all its housing stock to Knowsley Housing Trust and as a result the Council no longer owns properties of its own. The Council however still has a duty to prevent homelessness. and with the help of Housing Associations and the Private Sector the Council seeks to re-house those who are owed statutory homeless duty in Knowsley.

The Council’s homelessness service is run by Knowsley Housing Trust's (KHT), Homeless Prevention Team. The team will:

  • Work to prevent homelessness in Knowsley
  • Keep a list or register of homeless people
  • Investigate and assess homelessness applications
  • Provide some temporary accommodation
  • Arrange offers of accommodation to homeless people the Council has a duty to secure accommodation for
If you are homeless, or if you think you may become homeless in the near future, contact the Homeless Prevention Team at the KHT offices situated in the Council’s One Stop Shops (during office hours 9:00am to 5:00pm) or via the telephone, 0800 694 0280 (this number is available 24 hours a day).

When you contact the Team your needs will be assessed and if it is decided that there is a duty to re-house you, the Homeless Prevention Team on behalf of the council will seek suitable accommodation to meet your households needs according to the Council's Allocations policy. Further information is available in the links below.

Please note that the Knowsley Council‘s Allocations Policy is currently under review. For further information please contact the Housing Strategy Team on 0151 443 2253.
