Shaken baby syndrome

It's not ok to shake babies - it damages their brains

Babies have very soft brains and their blood vessels are fragile.

When a baby is shaken, the brain repeatedly hits against the hard bony skull. The blood vessels in the brain break and bleed which causes brain damage. This can cause severe disablement.

The horrible effects

Other problems such as clumsiness, slow speech, learning problems and if severe, paralysis and even death.

A lot of people think that shaking a baby is an acceptable alternative to smacking. Even the most loving parent or relative can unknowingly injure a child by shaking but this is very dangerous.

Please stop and think. Your baby is too precious to shake.
