Family support

Bringing up children is both rewarding and challenging, and we also understand that parents/carers need support to face the demands of family life, no matter how big or how small difficulties may be.

The Family Support Service consists of four family centres providing children and families with support, offering a partnership that helps to work through difficulties and find solutions.

Our centres are situated in Halewood and Whiston, Kirkby, Page Moss, and include a borough-wide flexible support team.

If appropriate and with the permission of parents/carers, we can work with other agencies to provide the best support package available. Although we are part of the Social Services department, it is not necessary for families to have a social worker in order for them to receive support. Support and activities are available through open access to the community.

The Flexible Support team and all family centres provide services which are appropriate to the needs of the individual. These needs are assessed in relation to the National Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their families. Some services which can be offered as part of the package of support could be:

  • Groupwork, on various issues e.g. self confidence/self esteem, healthy eating on a budget, women’s health, domestic violence.
  • Individual sessions on particular issues e.g. parenting, routines, etc.
  • Life work with children who are 'looked after'.
  • Supporting and facilitating positive time for contact between parents and children who are 'looked after’.
  • Child development sessions for children under 5.
The services are wide and varied and will always be adapted to meet the individuals’ needs. For further information, contact the following:
