Adoption

Children need adoptive families because their parents may not be able to give them appropriate care throughout their childhood and into their adulthood. Children may have been neglected or abused within their birth families.

What sort of people become adopters?

Many different kinds of people become adopters - some couples are unable to have birth children and seek to become parents through adoption. However, some couples and individuals may already have children but still have much to offer a child needing to belong and be safe and secure, through adoption.

How do I become an adopter?

Firstly give us a ring and we will give you information, we will also send you some reading material. A social worker from the team will visit you to answer your questions and tell you about the process. Pre-approval training is provided and you will have to attend. An assessment will be completed which will include police and health enquiries.

What are the rewards?

For the child, the security of a life long commitment from their new family, which will enable them to develop to their full potential. Knowing the difference you have made to a child's life and fulfilling your own need to parent is rewarding.

Adoption allowances are available in certain circumstances, for example where the child may have complex needs or to maintain siblings together.
