Books on prescription

Knowsley book prescription scheme aims to help people who are experiencing emotional problems such as stress, depression and anxiety.

If your doctor has diagnosed that you are experiencing emotional problems, they might prescribe you some medication, or refer you to a specialist who can help. This scheme will offer another treatment choice for you known as 'bibliotherapy.' This involves the use of recommended self-help books to help to overcome a range of emotional problems.

If your doctor feels that a book may be helpful to you, they will give  you a prescription for the book that they think is most likely to help. You can then take this prescription along to one of the libraries in  Knowsley where the library will loan you the book.  The doctor or health professional will also make a follow-up appointment with you to talk about how useful the book has been to you.

You can view the self-help booklist here or if  you would like to print a copy, you can download a PDF from the file attachments box below.
