Residential care for children (children looked after)

We provide residential care for children to
make sure that their needs are met when they cannot live with their
own family.
Residential care isn’t just about giving children food and
shelter, but helping them to develop and grow in a safe
environment, no matter what their needs.
Accommodation
There are five units in Knowsley – two in Kirkby, one in Huyton
and one in Halewood. The houses accommodate young people of 11 to
16 years who, for a period of time, cannot stay with their natural
or an alternative family.
The fifth house is a pre-independence unit based in Prescot.
This provides accommodation for up to four young people between 15
¾ to 18 years old.
Accessing the service
We provide this service for children and young people who have
been assessed as needing residential accommodation. The assessment
is carried out with the young person, social worker and residential
staff.
If a young person has been ‘looked after’ by the unit six months
prior to their 16th birthday, we will continue to provide a
placement until they reach the age of 16 or on completion of their
academic year, whichever is most appropriate.
