Concerned about a child’s welfare or
safety?
Everyone has a responsibility for safeguarding
children, not just the ‘professionals’. If you have concerns
that a child needs a service, or needs help and support in some
way, there are people who can help.
What can you do?
If you are worried that a child in Knowsley may be at risk of
harm or neglect you can report your concerns by doing one of the
following:
- If you believe that a child or young person is at immediate
risk, this should be reported without delay to the police service
as a 999 emergency.
- If you have some concerns about a child or young person but
believe them not to be at immediate risk you can either:

443 3792 or 0151 443 3798 (you will be connected to an alternative
service out of hours).
- Contact Merseyside Police on 0151 709 6010 (24 hour line)
- Discuss your concerns with a professional you trust such as a
health visitor, teacher or GP.
When you share your concerns, professionals have a
responsibility to act in the interests of the child and are
required to complete an assessment of risk to ensure the most
appropriate support is provided and that children are safeguarded.
If the professional carrying out the assessment believes the child
is suffering or likely to suffer harm they will immediately contact
Knowsley’s Children’s Social Care.

Are you are a child or young person concerned about abusive
online activity?
If you are concerned about something that may have happened
online, you are can take control by visiting the Child
Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (also known as
'CEOP').
If you are in immediate danger or want urgent help call
999 or contact your local police. Otherwise there are a number of
ways to receive help and advice as well as the option to report any
instance of sexual contact or harmful material
by visiting the
CEOP website.
