Special Educational Needs (SEN) Assessment

If your child has significant difficulties, we
may undertake an assessment to identify their special
educational needs.
What is classed as a learning difficulty?
A learning difficulty is if your child finds it much harder to
learn than most children of the same age or has a disability which
makes it difficult for them to use normal educational
facilities.
Most children's special educational needs will be met by help
normally available through their school.
In all schools, teaching takes account of children's different
needs and schools adopt a graduated approach to make sure that what
the schools provide matches a child's particular difficulty.
We will consider:
- Your child's needs
- Your child's progress
- Your views
- The views of teachers and others who work closely with your
child.
As a parent, you can also ask for this assessment if you
it is necessary. However you should discuss this with your child’s
school before you make your decision. You can also receive
independent advice from the Parent Partnership Service.
