If your child lives in Knowsley and attends a qualifying school, they may be entitled to a free bus pass if the child is attending their nearest qualifying Knowsley school and that school is more than the statutory walking distance of 2 miles for primary aged children and three miles for secondary aged children.

Or they may qualify if the family are receiving a low income if:

  • They’re entitled to free school meals

Or:

  • They have parents receiving the maximum level of Working Tax Credit

And:

  • They live more than two miles away from the nearest school they qualify to attend and are aged 8 – 11.  Secondary school children must live more than two miles but less than six miles from one of the three nearest qualifying community schools they’re attending.  Secondary age children attending the nearest suitable school on grounds of religion or belief qualify for free transport where they live more than two miles but not more than 15 miles from that school.

Find out if your child is entitled

This travel checker will measure the distance from your home to the chosen school and return a distance result in miles. Once within the travel checker you will need to provide the school name, postcode and type of school (denominational or community). You will also need to include your home address and provide an indication as to whether you are in receipt of low income.

Once you submit these details the travel checker will provide you with an indication of your entitlement to a bus pass. This result is based on the information you have provided and can only be used as an indication to entitlement  For a full assessment please call into any One Stop Shop located around the borough or call our Contact Centre on 0151 443 2500.

Other reasons your child may be entitled

Your child may also be entitled to free transport to school if:

  • The route your child walks to school is unsafe
  • They have special educational needs, a disability or mobility probems
  • They have a temporary medical issue
