Special Educational Needs Future Schooling in Knowsley

We are in the process of securing a £16.5m Private Finance
Initiative (PFI) to build a specialist learning centre for 200 3-19
year-olds. It will be located at the new learning centre site in
Southdene and will join together Springfield and The Elms special
schools.
Catering for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
The school will cater for pupils with a range of
complex SEN including:
- severe learning difficulties
- profound and multiple learning difficulties
- autistic spectrum disorder associated with severe learning
difficulties
- hearing and visual impairment with severe learning
difficulties
- children and young people from the above groups, who are likely
to have significant physical disabilities.
- This project will create a 21st century learning environment
that delivers high quality services to our children and young
people.
How will we achieve this?
We will achieve this through:
- Establishing a learning community for children and young people
who require specialist provision.
- Promoting the presence, participation and achievement of all
children and young people in Knowsley with severe and profound
complex needs.
- roviding an emotionally safe, motivating, nurturing and
attractive environment, where children and young people can develop
to their maximum potential.
- Maximising equality and opportunity to enable all children and
young people to be included in society wherever possible.
- Enabling children and young people to be active in the wider
community by promoting lifelong learning and social
opportunities.
