Kirkby Sports College Centre for Learning was officially opened
in September 2009, by Steve Munby, Chief Executive of the National
College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services, and
former Executive Director of Knowsley’s Children & Family
Services.
Kirkby Sports College Centre for Learning provides secondary
education for pupils aged from 11-16, for up to 1200 pupils, with a
maximum intake of 240 places per year.
The centre was Knowsley’s third Building Schools for the Future
(BSF) Centre for Learning to open its doors to pupils, so that
they, along with the community, can have a world class education
with state of the art technology, as well as excellent facilities
for sport, cultural and leisure activities. This centre specialises
in sports.
At Kirkby Sports College learning is at the heart of everything
they do – with a clear focus on the achievement of all their
pupils, enabling all to reach their full potential. The principal
very much believes that their partnership with parents and the
community is the foundation for success and they are committed to
building strong relationships with all our partners.
They expect high standards of their pupils in all aspects of
school life, work, appearance, punctuality and attendance,
discipline and behaviour. They are very proud of all their
students’ achievements and aim to meet the needs of every young
person.
A recent Ofsted inspection reveals that Kirkby Sport College
Centre for Learning has ‘made rapid progress’ since its opening in
September 2009 and has established itself as an ‘effective and
cohesive’ school. Inspectors rated Kirkby Sports College as
‘satisfactory’ for overall effectiveness and as ‘good’ for its
capacity for sustained improvement.
This progress is ‘as a result of strong leadership provided by
the principal and her senior staff; an imaginative curriculum which
is increasingly engaging students in their learning and the shared
commitment to creating a caring and inclusive school’.
It provides a safe, stimulating learning environment in which
students can grow into responsible adults, respecting themselves
and each other.
