Environmental policy

The Environmental Policy sets out how the council will minimise its impact on the environment. We are also developing an action plan to make sure that the policy is being implemented.

You can download the policy from the attachments box below. If you have any comments about the policy, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.

We are committed to maintaining and improving our environmental performance and action is already taking place in a number of areas:

  • We have signed up to the Northwest Climate Change Charter and are taking action to reduce the amount of energy we use.
  • We will be using a blend of 5 per cent biodiesel in council fleet vehicles, starting early 2007.
  • We have undertaken a waste minimisation programme and environmental champions will be taking forward environmental action across the council.
  • We are piloting an environmental management system using the International Standard ISO 14001.
  • Sustainability and low environmental impact will be addressed as priority design principles for Knowsley's new learning centres, as part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Awards
