We are committed to maintaining and improving our environmental performance and action is already taking place in a number of areas:
- We have signed up to the Northwest Climate Change Charter and are taking action to reduce the amount of energy we use.
- We will be using a blend of 5 per cent biodiesel in council fleet vehicles, starting early 2007.
- We have undertaken a waste minimisation programme and environmental champions will be taking forward environmental action across the council.
- We are piloting an environmental management system using the International Standard ISO 14001.
- Sustainability and low environmental impact will be addressed as priority design principles for Knowsley's new learning centres, as part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
