Community environmental challenge

Generous cash incentives are on offer to Knowsley community groups who can come up with the best project for improving their environment.

If your group has a good idea or has already embarked on a project which is improving the quality of the environment in Knowsley to benefit the local community, then you may be eligible for an award to help fund your project.

You may have your own ideas for demonstrating your ‘green’ commitment. However, listed below are some activities the Council would like to encourage:

  • Litter control projects
  • Recycling Initiatives
  • Neighbourhood Improvement Schemes (Litter Watch Area, Best Improved Street etc)
  • Landscape projects which enhance the appearance of an area
  • Waste minimisation
  • Safeguarding non -renewable resources and encouraging the use of renewable resources
  • Graffiti control projects
  • Energy conservation measures
  • Community art projects
  • Nature conservation
  • Climate change
Projects should:

  • Demonstrate improvements in the quality of the local environment.
  • Be of benefit to the local community.
  • Contribute towards raising community environmental awareness.
  • Be sustainable in the long and short term.
  • Be realistic and achievable.
  • Be cost effective.
  • Demonstrate how the award will be used to develop the project.
  • Be of benefit to the "global" environment.
  • Be innovative.
