The Council has powers through various pieces of legislation including the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Control of Pollution Act 1974. These powers allow the Council to impose conditions on operations or to deal with nuisances as they arise.
In the case of large developments which require planning permission, it is sometimes possible to impose condition to the consent top control for example, programming of work, and dust and noise control measures.
