• Regional spatial strategy

The Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the North West sets down the overall strategy for development across the whole region.

It classes Knowsley as a priority area for regeneration and identifies, for example, how much housing development can take place in the borough.

The North West Regional Assembly will prepare the RSS.  A new draft RSS is likely to be published in 2007.  You can view the current version called Regional Planning Guidance for the North West (published in 2003) on their website (see related links box below).
