Satellite dishes

You will need planning permission to install a satellite dish on a listed building.  If your property is in a conservation area, you may also need planning permission.

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, permission is required:

  • If the dish is to be located on a chimney, will the antenna exceed 45 centimetres in any dimension (excludes projecting feed elements, reinforcing rim, mounting and brackets) or will it exceed the highest part of the chimney?
  • In other positions, will the antenna exceed 90 centimetres?
  • Is there any other satellite antenna on the building?
  • If the antenna is to be installed on the roof, will it exceed the highest part of the roof?

If your answer to any of the above questions is no, it is still a requirement that the satellite dish be sited so as to minimise the effect on the external appearance of the house.

Visit the Planning Portal's antenna guide, which will show you what is acceptable.

In all cases, you should contact us for further information and advice before installation.
