Conservation
Conservation areas are defined as, "areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance".
Within a conservation area the council has extra controls over the following:
- demolition
- minor developments
- trees
Before you begin any work or alterations, you should contact planning and building control for further advice and guidance and complete an application form, which can be found in the attachments box at the bottom of this page.

Conservation area appraisals
Appraisals
re-assess the character of the areas and note any changes which
have occurred since its designation such as new development,
changes to specific buildings and streetscapes. However, appraisals
are not intended to be fully comprehensive and any omission does
not imply that something is of no interest.
You can download the most recent appraisals from the attachments box below, along with Knowsley's development guide, which we use to assess all development proposals across the borough.
