Access Tools

Building regulations set standards for the design and construction of buildings for health and safety purposes, energy conservation and access to and about buildings.

If you are a developer and familiar with building regulations and the building control system you can find technical guidance organised around the 'Parts' A to P of the requirements of the regulations on the Planning Portal website.

Alternative guidance, themed around building projects, such as extensions, loft conversions etc, can be found on the general public user section of the Planning Portal website.

Make an application
You can make a building regulations application via the Submit a Plan website. Register your details, logon and choose 'Knowsley' as the local authority before making your application.

Make a payment
You can pay for your building regulation application online. Click on the link in the 'online payments' box below and do the following:

1. Select the 'Building Control' option.
2. In 'account number' field, enter 'DRN - PLANAPP - D4021 - postcode     house number (please note that the postcode and house number entered should refer to     the proposed building in your application.
3. In 'account name' field, enter 'Building Control'.
4. Enter payment amount (charges can be found in the attachments box below).

Building regulation approval or planning permission?
Complying with building regulations is a separate matter from getting planning permission for your work. Take a look at our permissions guide, which explains what may need planning permission, building regulation approval, or both. The Planning Portal website also has an interactive guide which you may find useful.
