Prescot War Memorial

Prescot war memorialThe granite memorial featuring a soldier of the 5th South Lancashire Regiment was a gift to the township by Councillor William John Lucas, Chairman of the Prescot Urban District Council. Councillor Lucas had the momument erected at his own expense to commemorate those individuals from the Prescot district who lost their lives in the war.

The memorial is unusual because it was unveiled mid-way through WW1 during the Battle of the Somme. The unveiling ceremony took place on 9th September 1916 and was carried out by Colonel Sir Henry Webb MP, commanding officer of the soldiers at Prescot Barracks who replaced the Earl of Derby who was unable to attend.

The memorial was originally located at the junction of Church Street and West Street but now occupies a position on the plateau at the rear of Prescot Parish Church.

Huyton War Memorial

Huyton war memorialThis Great War memorial was presented to Huyton-with-Roby Urban District Council by Mr.George Hinde Nisbett JP, an Electrical Engineer at the British Insulated & Helsby Cables who had the structure erected at his own expense. Mr Nisbett's son was one of the local soldiers who died during the conflict.

The Memorial was unveiled without ceremony in February 1921. It was originally positioned in front of the old HUDC buildings in Derby Road but today occupies a position facing the Huyton Suite in Civic Way.
