Physical Education and School Sport Partnerships

Physical education is a key priority for the Government. Targets indicate that 75% of pupils should take part in 2 hours of physical activity per week rising to 85% by 2008. At the 2005 national survey, Knowsley stood at 67%. We expect to reach the national target this year.

The School Sports Partnership (SSP) is one area of the P.E. and School Sport / Club Links Strategy (PESSCL) which has been set up to meet these targets.

Knowsley has two School Sport Partnerships which are based in two specialist sports colleges - Brookfield and Bowring.

The partnerships work towards increased participation in the following:

  • High quality physical education
  • High quality out of school hours learning
  • High quality informal activity
  • High quality competition and performance
  • Improved attitude, behaviour and attendance in PE and whole school
  • Increased attainment and achievement in and through PE, OSHL and sport
  • Increased participation in community based sport and improved quality of community life.
If you would like to find out more about the School Sport Partnerships, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
