Governors are volunteers who work closely with the headteacher and school staff.  Together they are responsible for:

• managing the school budget
• recruitment of staff
• maintaining links with parents and the community
• promoting high standards of educational achievement.

Who are we?
The Governor Support Service aims to work with governors in Knowsley to support and encourage effective governance, through the provision of information, advice and training, appropriate to the needs of governing bodies.

To do this we:

• Provide training opportunities for governors and clerks.
• Provide a welcome pack for new governors.
• Offer training sessions tailored for individual governing bodies.
• Produce and circulate a Termly Executive Director's Report to governing bodies.
• Manage the procedures for the appointment of LA governors.
• Maintain a database of governors in Knowsley.
• Produce a twice yearly newsletter for school governors.
• Maintain a library of resources available for governors.
• Produce sample materials for clerks and governing bodies.
• Offer a consultancy service to clerks and governors.
• Provide briefings on new legislation or proposed changes affecting governing bodies.
• Provide support for temporary governing bodies.
• Maintain a website for governors.
• Organise an annual Knowsley governors conference.
• Organise an bi-annual Knowsley clerks conference.
• Organise a termly Clerks forum.
• Organise an annual Link Governor forum.
• Support the termly Chairs and Vice Chairs meeting with the Leadership Team.
• Conduct risk assessment procedures.
• Maintain instruments of Government.
• Monitors governor vacancies and promotes governor recruitment.

*some services only available to schools subscribing to a Service Level Agreement with the Governor Support Service
