Education maintenance allowance
Education Maintenance Allowance is
weekly payment of up to £30 paid
directly to young people who stay in
further education after they reach
statutory leaving age (i.e. after
school year 11). Young people may also
receive bonus payments of £100 if they
remain on their course and make good
progress with the learning.
You can get an Education Maintenance Allowance if:

- you are aged 16-18 and resident in Knowsley (other age conditions apply to students elsewhere)
- your parents' household income is £30,000 or below
- you are on a further education course in a school sixth form, sixth form college or FE college
You must attend all your course
sessions and sign and EMA contract with
your school or college.
